Young Confederate soldier

Day 5 Posse Ride Eastern Campaign
Friday June 17, 2005
Vicksburg, MS to Mobile, AL
200 miles
Cooler and overcast
States: 22-Mississippi, 23-Alabama
Rode with: Kazuo & Kyoko, Dave

First we visit Vicksburg National Military Park, its part of our National Park system, and we are all big National Park fans. Even Kazuo and Kyoko from Japan own an annual National Park Pass. We start by taking the driving tour, a little over an hour. While the hills and road and scenery is beautiful, all the statues and memorials are a reminder of all the suffering here during the Civil War. Near the end are the endless rows of graves. The little stones about 18 inches high bear the name of the fallen soldier and where he was from. All those shorter stones, about 9 inches high are the markers for the unknown soldiers. That makes me cry, all those young boys and men. Died for their respective causes, and no one even knew their names.
