| New York City |
| Now comes the fun part. We are going through New York City, across the George Washington Bridge. Traffic was backed for about twelve miles. Its really hot, probably 100 degrees. Pot holes the size of Volkswagens. Jay leads us through all this, slowly, but we are moving. We finally get through and get to a rest area. We run into two other Posse riders there. Who are lost. They have been sitting in traffic, moving only 5 miles in two hours. His thighs have actually been burned by the heat from his Harley, the sun, and the road heat. They add on to our little Posse and Jay gets us all safely out of New York. Pepe is from Los Angeles, and he swears after this he will never again complain about Los Angeles traffic. We get to the dealer in Danbury, CT, and this one is exactly the opposite of Benjy's. Promptly at 6 PM everyone is thrown out of the store, the hot-dogs are packed up, its time for us to go. And with almost 800 Harley's in town, they are not open on Sunday, so some riders whose bikes need work, are now stranded for two days. So unlike other Harley dealers, usually so accommodating to traveling Harley riders. Another rider tells us that his bike was down at Benjy's. They gave him a ride over to his hotel. When he asked when his bike would be done, they said they would stay and work on it until it was done. At 10 PM they called him at his hotel and said they were coming back for him, his bike was ready to go. He was now grateful he broke down West Virginia and not Connecticut. We are sad to have left the good Southern food, good Southern manners, good Southern roads. We are missing the Southern hospitality already. On the other hand the really good Southern humidity has gone. Its still really hot and humid, but no where near as humid as it had been all week since Mobile. The pool is broken at the "kids" hotel, they call me and ask if they can come over and visit us and swim. So Mike, Jenna and Levy are swimming, while Harold, Dave, Kirk, Lefty and I are catching up out by the pool. |
